Looking for a holiday appetizer to bring to a party, or to put out at your own party? Look not further! Last year I made this pomegranate and pear salsa for customers at work, and it was a huge hit, to say the least. I made it again this year and people liked it so much that I recently decided to make it for a holiday party I attended (Recipe Source).
Pomegranate and Pear Salsa
(Serves about 10)
Ingredients
(Serves about 10)
Ingredients
2 pomegranates or 1 3/4 cup pomegranate seeds
1/4 cups 100% pomegranate juice
Juice of 1 lime
1/4 cup minced red onion
1/4 cup freshly chopped cilantro
1 medium Bartlett or Asian pear, cored and diced
1 tbs granulated sugar
1/4 cups 100% pomegranate juice
Juice of 1 lime
1/4 cup minced red onion
1/4 cup freshly chopped cilantro
1 medium Bartlett or Asian pear, cored and diced
1 tbs granulated sugar
Preparation
1. Score each pomegranate and place in large bowl of water. Break pomegranates open in water to free seeds. Pull and break seeds from membrane; seeds will sink to bottom of bowl. Strain, place seeds in medium mixing bowl.2. Add pomegranate juice and lime juice to seeds; toss to coat evenly. Add minced red onion, cilantro and diced pear; stir to combine. Sprinkle sugar over seed mixture; stir to combine. Serve with tortilla chips, fish or chicken.

Aren't the colors pretty? I think this appetizer is not only delicious, but beautiful.

QUESTION: What's your favorite way to eat pomegranates? Please provide a recipe and link and I will post it on my next post!

I don't have one to share :( ALTHOUGH, yours will be my TOP PICK for holiday parties...nutritious, raw, colorful...what is not to love!! Thanks for sharing!
Great idea for a salsa. Sounds yummy! I do love the colors too! Hope you had a nice weekend.
I love this! I could see this as a great compote to a white fish. So simple once you get passed scooping out all those pom. seeds. If I end up buying any more pomegranates this season, this is going on my list to make.
must find a holiday party to go to so i can bring this!
I LOVE pomegranates! I've never thought of incorporating the seeds into a salsa, but this recipe looks so delicious, I know I'll have to try it! I don't have a specific recipe with pomegranate - instead, when I'm lucky enough to get pomegranate seeds (already removed from the fruit because I'm *ahem* lazy ;) ), I tend to put it into anything - salad, smoothies, on sandwiches (great with leftover turkey), mixed with nuts (candied or plain), with yogurt ... pretty much everywhere :)
I hope your holiday season is going well, Gina! :)
I love this idea! Well, truthfully, I love anything with pomegranates :-)
this is such a fun dish, love how colorful it is.
I haven't cooked much with pom seeds, but this one I did a while ago was really good.

Wow I definitely may have to make this for Christmas Eve. Can I make it a little ahead of time? My plan is to be as low stress on that day as possible since we are hosting again :)
What a great salsa! We got several pomegranate's in our CSA box! I'm making this!
This looks so good! I love eating them with a sweet potato and coconut butter... YUM!
Yums that looks great! I don't have any recipes to share...I am intimidated by pomegranates lol
yumm!!! i love pomegranates. i've never actually made something with the seeds, I usually just buy them as a movie snack. keeps me away from the doritos etc :)
This looks BEYOND delicious!!!!!! Thank you for sharing this beautiful recipe.
This looks delicious. I love pomegranate on it's own, but I'd love to learn some new ways to use it in cooking. Thanks!
How pretty! I've never thought of using Pomegranates in a salsa. I usually just like to eat them by its own, but I've alos tried it in a modern Indian cuisine as a compote.
Really pretty. I like pomegranates plain, sometimes in yogurt. The underwater "peeling" is key.
This looks...amazing! The sweet pear balances out that tart pomegranate, I'm sure! Mmmm!
This looks delicious! I just introduced poms to my family last year (I know, we've been deprived) and now my kids love them! I didn't realize you could grow them here in NC, but now that I know, I can't wait to try to grow my own! We usually just eat them plain (I like them in my oatmeal and yogurt too) but I've seen a recipe for chocolate pomegranate cookies that I'd love to try!
Oh my - this pomegranate pear salsa looks phenomenal! Gorgeous!!
